For some, Microsoft Windows operating systems are plain annoying, simply because of the options that are provided and not used. Many people do not know about the countless features of XP that are not documented, and furthermore make computing a lot easier.
Certain things such as registry tweaks and file mods are overlooked and forgotten, even though some changes speed up a computers performance. For example, Animation and Effects: Reducing the amount of visual and menu effects can drastically speed up a computer in displaying content and menus. Fading and sliding menus chew up CPU cycles slowing down the computer, if only for a second.
Other factors to include are User Interface tweaks. Small things such as having your most used programs, files, and folders on the desktop can speed up performance and reduce wasted time looking for items. Another time saving tip is to have your “My Documents” or “My Computer” or “Control Panel” icons in the start menu show up as menus instead of links. This saves time when searching for a document or file.
